The Exorcism @ Cartmell Hall
When the movie, The Exorcist came out, I was living in Cartmell Hall @ Morehead State on the Sigma Nu's 4th floor. I was rooming with Ed Phelps. I couldn't wait to see the movie, so on opening night, I was there. The only thing, to this day that I am more afraid of than Linda Blair is a shark. I went to the late showing and when I got back to the dorm, everyone was either in bed, studying or gone. After careful thought, I decided to go on to bed. (with the lights on) I was having bad dreams and then about 2:30 AM I awoke to a gurgling noise and THE LIGHTS WERE OUT! I jumped up as quick as I could and just started swinging my fists in the dark. I finally made my way to the light switch, dripping in a cold sweat.
When I turned on the light, Eddie was lying on his back, eyes rolled back in his head and gurgling. I thought, Oh Crap, they've got Ed. I ran down the hall looking for Dan Parke. I was told that Dan had been a medic in the Armed Forces. When Dan heard me screaming his name, he came running. He flew into the room, rolled Ed over on his side, cleared the puke from his airway and patted him on the back. Ed had been to a party and consumed a few beverages too many. Dan told me that I had to stay awake and make sure Ed stayed on his side. At this point, staying awake was not a problem.
