Duck And The LSAT
In 1978 I decided that I wanted to go to law school somewhere in Florida close to the beach. I signed up to take the entrance exam in Jacksonville. About two weeks prior to the exam I left Flatwoods to head for Orlando to visit my good friend and old roomie at Morehead, Lawrence Levine.
The day of my arrival, Lawrence took me to the Sanford-Orlando Dog Track. This was not a good thing for me because I liked it way too much. I hit a Superfecta that night for about $5,400.00 and continued to win something every day for the next three weeks. I think you can see where I'm going with this. I never made it to Jacksonville and decided to become a professional dog handicapper. After about 45 days the money had run dry and I took a job selling used cars during the day for Art Grindle. I believe he went on to become a State Senator. I still went to the dog races in the evening.
After another two weeks my Mother called and said that I had three job offers. C&O Railroad, Sears and Ashland Oil. I took the C&O job thinking I would work a couple of years and then go to Law School in Louisville. After twenty Eight years on the railroad, I still wish I had gone to Law School.
