Russell's All State Soloist
I was able to speak with my all-time favorite cheerleading coach this weekend. This reminded me of a prank that we played on her three years ago at the Russell Awards Banquet. I was standing next to Regina Rice as they were going down the list of kids that had been chosen for All State Band. I was telling Regina just how wonderful it was that Russell received so many awards because 1973 was the last time(not really) that anyone from Russell had achieved this distinction. I told her in 1973 that Rob Webb was selected All State as a soloist on the Swinette.
Regina wanted to know what a Swinette instrument was and it just so happened that Rob was sitting at the other end of the stage. She proceeded toward Rob during the Hoopla to ask the question. He explained that the Swinette was a rather difficult instrument to play and what a great honor it was for him to get All State. You know it's coming but you're still reading... Without looking toward me or even batting an eye Rob explained to Regina that a Swinette was three hairs stretched across a hog's ass, plucked with your teeth. When she returned, I got "The Look". We all know what look I'm talking about.
